How to Make a Prim Adjustable Candle Holder
by Kris Thomas (simplyprim)
I’ve been fortunate to be stay-at-home mom since my oldest daughter was born.  Being the typical homemaker, I wanted my home to be warm and welcoming to family and friends.  And with being a one-income family, we sometimes had to pinch pennies so we didn’t always have the luxury of buying what we wanted.

I grew up with “do-it-yourself” parents, so I guess their resourcefulness was instilled in me.  I found ways to obtain the things that I could not afford by learning to make them myself.  Over the years, I have learned many skills and techniques.  I  enjoy the challenge of creating new things and tend to meet each challenge with an “I can do that” approach.

I look forward to being the Prim Project Coordinator for A Primitive Place and am excited to share fun and exciting projects with you each month!

Until next time,
~Kris~

First, right click and save, then print out the pattern piece below and trace onto one end of the 1" x 1" piece of wood.  Cut with a scroll or saber/jigsaw.  (It's easier to cut the piece this way rather than trying to hold on to a small piece of wood.)

Then cut that piece 4” long.  Cut a 15” piece from the remaining 1” x 1” wood.

To make your marks for the opening, center your  MAIN piece on top of your ARM piece.

Mark a pencil line on both sides of the MAIN piece, about center of the ARM piece.

Then measure in 5 ¼” from each end of the ARM piece and then make a pencil mark from the top line to the bottom line.

Drill a hole in the center of your marked ARM piece with a 7/8” wood spade drill bit.

Using a saber/jig saw, cut out the center of the ARM piece along the marked pencil lines.  Test it to make sure it fits.  Slide the ARM piece over the MAIN piece and insert the wedge.  Make adjustments if needed.

Measure in 1” from each end of your ARM piece and drill a hole about ¼” deep using a ¾” wood spade drill bit.  (The hole width may vary due to candle size - measure across the bottom of the candles you’re using to get the exact width.)

Drill a pilot hole in the center of the BASE piece.

Sand all of your pieces.  I rounded the edges on all of mine to give it a more “worn” look.

Glue and screw your MAIN piece on to your BASE piece using a 3” screw.  Glue the wood knob on top.

When dry, finish as desired.

Assemble by sliding the ARM piece over the MAIN piece to desired height and insert the wedge to hold it in place, then add candles.
