Autumn Blessings on Our Country Ranch
"Antiques are my favorite thing to decorate with. They just have so much character."
Photo Insert: We used the leaded glass windows from our old house and built them into the wall of our new home. We put one in the dining room above the green cupboard (see insert) and on the entertainment wall.
This meant a lot to us to be able to have a piece of our old home in our new.
My name is Sherri
and I would love for you to step into my home!
We live in the country near a small town in central Illinois.

I love the colonial look but find it hard sometimes to decorate with less. So I guess you can say our home is more country or farmhouse.
Fall is my favorite time of the year to decorate. I love the fall colors which you can see I have used a lot of throughout our home. I do have some antique pieces that happened to be in my store at the time of the fire.
I feel very blessed for that.
Hope you enjoy the tour of just a few rooms in our home!

I am, for now,ASAHWM. I closed my country store, after nine years, in July 2008.
In June 2008 we had a devastating fire. We lost most everything that my DH , of 27 years, and I had collected over the years.
Instead of trying to rebuild our 100 year old home, we decided to build new. This was a very difficult decision for me.I loved the old character of our home but we found a great contractor that worked with us
to bring some of that character into our new home.

Photo Above: We had the amish, in Arthur Illinois, design and build our kitchen cabinets. We went with quartersawn oak in the shaker style.
We also had them do all the trim and doors so that everything matches.

2009 Holiday Featured Home
All Roads Lead Home for the Holidays
"When it comes to Winter, who can resist the beautiful snowfalls, building a snowman, catching snowflakes on your tongue and having a cup of hot cocoa when you are done sledding in the snow!
Memories are made from moments like these."
My husband Geoff and I have lived in Nebraska for about 10 years. We have five children. One girl and four boys...and one energetic puppy! My favorite thing about living in the Midwest is the change of seasons. I love them all. Spring and Summer
I hope you enjoy this holiday tour of our home. I love decorating for any and all seasons but Christmas is a time to bring out so many of my favorite things. Ornaments handmade by our children, favorite Snowmen and Santas, also some older favorite decorations and ornaments that bring back memories from my own childhood.
Wishing you all Happy Holidays from our home to yours.
Geoff, Sarah & Family
are nice. My most favorite season has to be Fall, the colors of Autumn always amaze me. But when it comes to Winter, who can resist the beautiful snowfalls, building a snowman, catching snowflakes on your tongue and having a cup of hot cocoa when you are done sledding in the snow! Memories are made from moments like these.
Photo Left: Our Farmhouse Table was purchased very recently. So exciting for our family, we finally have enough room and enough chairs for our family of seven to sit around the table, with one extra chair to spare! I love it because it has a distressed finish, so with five kids some of the dents and dings made by the kids will only add to its "prim charm"!
Photos Below: The Santas that you see pictured are some of the first Santas I ever bought when my husband and I were first married. They were made by a very talented gal in Iowa...right down to their hand molded faces, glasses and clothing. I just love them!
Photo Right: The top of my kitchen cabinets are perfect for displaying crocks, jugs, wooden bowls, jar lights and baskets...all of my favorite things!
Photos below: Pictured are the toaster cover and doughboard made by my Dad. The doughboard not only disguises the stovetop, but also serves as a perfect display space...changing it up with the seasons.

Decorating tip: By adding just a few sprigs of evergreen to your displays, whether it be fresh greens or artificial, it adds just the right touch!
Photo Left: My bowl rack, made by my Dad, is very special to me. I just love it and love to change the look of it from season to season! My Dad has made several wood items in our home. I give him a "list" of the things I want, he cuts them out, puts them together and gives them to me unfinished ready for me to paint and prim up. I love to choose the color and the finish. Some of these items include my toaster cover, bowl rack, table bench and doughboard. All very special pieces that mean so much to me.
Photo Right: The centerpiece on the table is meant to be simple. I started with the three large bells. I always try to work in odd numbers when displaying. Then I added some simple faux greens. I like my faux greens to look as real as possible. After I put those things in the large resin bowl, I thought "that's it, I don't want anything else in it". Then I added the iron mitten candle holders with the rusty star pillars, because I love the soft glow of candlelight. To finish off the whole display I thought the red table square added just the right touch of color.

Bedrooms are our "safe haven" they should be where we can come and have peace and quiet. Decorate your room with that in mind. Use your favorite things in your bedroom,
use soft lights and candles that smell wonderful.
I love to use lots of pillows on the bed, I think they add depth and also coziness. We have a mission style oak bed...I think the pillows soften the look of it. Change your pillows with the seasons, even if it's just one snowman pillow for example it will just add a hint of the holidays to your bedroom.

Fading Summer Days in New Brunswick, Canada
Photo left: "The pantry was my grandmother's and I remember her keeping all her canned goods in it. It became mine when my sister, who bought my grandparents' home, decided they didn't want it. It was on the way to the garbage when I found out about it. I am so thankful I was able to rescue it for my own home. It's one of my most treasured possessions."
"My favorite room in our home is my dining room. It's filled with several special pieces."
Photo right: Stephen also built the black corner cabinet and the shelf. "I am blessed that he loves to build things for our home", states Kathy. Most of her accessories were found at yard/ farm sales and antique stores, plus many are family treasures too.
Photo above: The dining room table was built by Kathy's husband, Stephen, several years ago. She wanted a farmhouse table but couldn't find one. With his help, they designed and built this one to fit their small room.
Photo above: Black Eyed Susans adorn a crock that belonged to Kathy's grandmother. Her grandmother used the crock to mix pancake batter, many years ago. It was one of the very first pieces that Kathy inherited and it is one piece that she truly loves!
Photo above: Kathy enjoys creating many things for her home, including the stitcheries, gingerbread man, candle bag and sweet potato garland.

"We really love the open concept of our little cottage. The kitchen, dining room and living room are all one big open space which makes it seem much larger. It's a wonderful spot for entertaining family and friends"

Photo Insert: "One of my favorite family heirlooms
is this antique rocker that belonged to my great-grandmother. I remember us rocking in it together when I was very young.
I treasure it, and it would be the first thing I would grab if the house caught fire :-)

Stephen built the black cabinet in the living room to use as an entertainment center, and crafted all the other wooden pieces in the room, with the exception of the pew which came from the little church that Kathy attended when she was a child.
"My Dad rescued that for me, and I love that he did that for me.
