Behind My Red Door with the Rudmans
Welcome to our colonial and primitive inspired Christmas home!

My husband and I have lived here for over 22 years
A Colonial Christmas
and during that time I have been working to change our nondescript suburban home, into something that is not only warm and welcoming but that hints of the past.

We live in a colonial town in New England and I love the history of our area as well as places like Colonial Williamsburg,VA and Old Salem, NC. I use them as inspiration. Fresh greens, family pieces and folk art collections round out my Holiday decor. I hope you enjoy this tour!.

Kings Landing is a working village set up as life would have been in the 1800’s.  We made many trips to this wonderful place.  I would spend hours going from house to house looking at everything and dreaming of having a home like those glorious old homes.  I have strived to make my home look as colonial/primitive as possible.  I am forever studying magazines looking for ideas and ways to make my home look like one in the 1800’s.
I love the look of primitive furniture and went to woodworking school to learn the craft of building furniture.  This has become my passion and every room in my house has pieces I have created.   I hope you enjoy the tour of my home where I have tried to bring some of the past into the present.  - Jill Williams
Jill Williams
also known as primchick has been building primitive furniture and accessories for her home for the past 6 years. A native of Maine, her inspiration comes from the historic homes she toured while in Canada.

Jill put the trim on the walls and painted them to give it that wonderful
colonial look. The black, mustard and reds, as you see here, flow from room to room.

Jill loves to visit the Brimfield Antique Fleamarket that is held in Brimfield MA. She has found several treasures for her home, as well as ideas for building her next piece of furniture.

She purchased the wondeful yellow ware bowl, that she has filled with apples, setting on her stepback cupboard. She also purchased two of her dining room chairs there.
Photo Above: This old farm table was a site for sore eyes when Jill found it.  After sanding, applying a chestnut colored stain and a sealer, she converted this old table into a beautiful piece of furniture.

Jill built several pieces for her dining room. The stepback cupboard, the dough box in the corner, the plate rack on the wall, the mirror and the little whale tail shelf with candle are all things that she made herself.

"My love for the old began many years ago when Ifirst went to a place in Canada called Kings Landing..."
Jill installed all the molding on the walls and doors in the hallway and painted them to give it a colonial feel. She also built the shelf that hangs on the wall. The look that she has achieved is one that reminds her of some of the old colonial homes that she toured while in Canada.

"Living in New England offers an abundance of early American and primitive decor, which I am grateful for.""

Living in a modest New England style Gambrel home with her husband John, daughter Ashley (15), and son Nick (13), Bonnie's style of decorating leans towards an early American look.

"If I don't like it, I paint it!"

Photo Below: Bonnie painted a hutch that was given to her by her mother. It previously had a stain finish to it, but now is a Burgandy Red by Benjamin Moore.
Bonnie is fond of the early American colors mustards, muted reds, and black. This color scheme is carried out throughout her home. She's especially drawn to furniture pieces in these colors.

Bonnie painted her kitchen cabinets in
Barn Red, by Ralph Lauren, and put up a beadboard backsplash in a buttery yellow a few years ago. The inspiration came from one
of her favorite magazines; Country Living.
