Photo left: Lisa purchased the large firkin on the right from ebay and the small one was a thrift store find. She made them both over using the technique on the left.
My decorating style is a mix of Primitive/Colonial and
Farmhouse. Once people step inside our home they are
pleasantly surprised to find hardwood pine floors and
a homey atmosphere.
We have always lived on a tight budget, since most of my married life I have spent as the keeper
of the home. With that said I had to learn to be a very thrifty decorator!
Welcome to Black Sheep's Homeplace - A Primitive Place
We purchased
our 2000 sq. foot doublewide mobilehome new in 1997. With the help
of my husband, I
have been working hard ever since to turn a plain jane into a warm cozy place to live our lives.

Lisa's Farmhouse table was purchased at a yard sale for $60!
It was solid wood made by someone years ago but they had painted it white!
The coffee table in the photo above was a trash dump find by
Lisa's aunt. She traded her a cupboard for it. The corner cupboard is made out of an old door which was her husband's idea. The door was given to Lisa by a friend for helping her decorate her home. The shutters were made by Lisa and her husband.

Lisa acquired the fireplace mantel from her aunt, who paid just $5 for it at an auction! Her aunt needed help painting a room, so Lisa helped her and the mantle was hers!
Start by rubbing a wax tart over the entire piece. Using candle wax or soap in areas you don’t want paint to stick to, makes it easy to achieve that time worn look.
Next apply a top coat of paint.
Then take a piece of fine steel wool and knock off some of the paint.
The final step is apply a walnut gel stain.
Find out how this thrifty stay at home mom barters for what she wants and how she uses
handmade and made-over items to decorate her home!

Our home is filled with madeover items and handmade treasures. I learn to stitch, sew, paint and do woodworking to acquire the things i wanted so badly. Which i didn't mind at all, because behind all my treasures there is a story to tell. So sit back, relax and enjoy your peek inside my home!

After looking at many pictures, Lisa designed the kitchen island and with the help of her husband, they built it. She then painted and distressed it to look old and worn.
Lisa found the dining room chandelier at a sale for only $10!
Lisa's husband purchased a light kit and made the light over the kitchen sink from an old canning jar.

In her masterbath, Lisa filled an old cabinet with vintage toiletries, and towels. She continued the white accents throughout the room by hanging old enamelware on the wall and from pegs on an old barnwood sign.
Lisa added more vintage enamelware in the guest/kid's bathroom. It provides just the right touch to an already great room full of more primitive charm.

The window frame over the bed was a freebie from a neighbor and the quilt piece behind it came from a quilt that belonged to her great grandmother. The beautiful quilt at the foot of the bed also belonged to her great grandmother.

Lisa adorned a pegboard in her master bedroom with baby dresses and shoes that belonged to her when she was a child.
The old wardrobe in the photo above was given to Lisa by her husband's mother.
Lisa and her husband built the red cabinet pictured above that houses a TV.
Lisa purchased this four poster bed at a used furniture shop for $100.
I hope you enjoyed the tour of my home!
